In 1963, the first Wagoneer was offered for sale, but Jeep’s wagon history actually dates back to the Willy’s Jeep station wagon that dates back to 1946. The Wagoneer went on an extended hiatus that started in 1991, and this nameplate is now being resurrected with the introduction of the 2022 Wagoneer and the 2022 Grand Wagoneer. What do you need to know about these vehicles?
1. Body-on-Frame Design
The Wagoneer and the Grand Wagoneer will both have a body-on-frame design. This design facilitates rugged performance capabilities and superior towing power.
2. Three Rows of Seating
These models will both have three rows of seating. They join the Grand Cherokee L to fill this critical gap in the Jeep lineup.
3. Short-Wheelbase and Long-Wheelbase Options
The Wagoneer will be built on a short-wheelbase design, and the Grand Wagoneer will be built on a long-wheelbase platform. Notably, the Grand Wagoneer will become Jeep’s flagship model in the 2022 model year.
4. Independent Rear Suspension
Jeep will give the Wagoneer and the Grand Wagoneer independent rear suspension systems to elevate SUVs’ capabilities further.
5. A Hybrid Powertrain
The Wagoneer and the Grand Wagoneer will both be available with a hybrid-electric powertrain option. The hybrid powertrains will meet drivers’ demands for fuel efficiency as well as power.
6. Many Trim Levels
You can expect both of these new Jeep SUV models to be available with an extensive array of trim levels. These include budget-minded options, mid-level options, and premium trim levels.
7. Numerous Powertrain Options
In addition to having hybrid powertrains, the Wagoneer and the Grand Wagoneer will have high-powered gas engines. You can expect HEMI V8 engines to be available in both trim levels.
8. Modern Technologies
All of the new Jeep models are packed with modern technologies, and these will not be exceptions. You can expect these new models to have LaneSense, Perpendicular, and Parallel ParkSense, a surround-view camera system, and more. They also may have massaging front seats, a UConnect system, and other in-cabin treats.
9. A Fresh Look
The Wagoneer is historically known for having wood paneling throughout the exterior. This will not be the case for the revised 2022 Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer. Instead, you can expect premium, modern styling that pays tribute to the nameplate’s heritage.
10. Coming Soon
These models will be in production in late 2021. With this in mind, you can start looking for them at your local dealership soon.
